International Course on Startup Funding: Legal Challenges in Europe and the United States – A Multinational Learning and Academic Exchange Opportunity

On April 28 and 29, 2025, the Faculty of Law – Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) successfully organized the international course “Startup Funding: Legal Challenges in the EU and the USA”, taught by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Šime Jozipović, Jean Monnet Professor for European Business and Finance Law, and former Harvard Law School fellow, from the University of Split, Croatia.

The course was part of a series of international cooperation activities aimed at enhancing research and academic capacity for law students of the Faculty of Law – TDTU. A highlight of the course was the active participation of students from both the Faculty of Law, Ton Duc Thang University and the Faculty of Law and Political Science, National University of Laos. The enthusiastic involvement of international students demonstrated not only the relevance and appeal of the course topic but also the spirit of learning and deep integration in the Southeast Asian higher education environment.

The course focused on the legal challenges surrounding startup funding in the European Union and the United States – a topic that is both academically rich and practically relevant. With his extensive experience in European and American Business, Tax, and Finance Law, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Šime Jozipović provided learners with a multidimensional perspective by comparing major legal systems around the world, while encouraging critical thinking and active engagement in class discussions.

Throughout the course, students were not only exposed to in-depth legal knowledge but also had the chance to improve their academic English skills, develop independent research capabilities, and engage in cross-cultural academic exchange.

The course concluded in a vibrant and inspiring atmosphere, leaving a lasting impression on all participants. It marks an important milestone for future international cooperation activities between the Faculty of Law – TDTU and regional universities, contributing to the development of a dynamic, creative, and globally integrated academic community.
